Short Proposal

For the final paper I would like to write a research paper focusing on the effectiveness of content communication when digitized as opposed to traditional mediums. I would like to combine this topic with the issue of credibility which we encountered in the article by Johns, “The Book of Nature and the Nature of the Book”. It was interesting to learn how there was this problem of credibility when books transitioned from conveying the content orally to written form, and how this problem is relevant as we transition from traditional written form to electronic literature. This is a broad idea still but I would really like to research whether or not electronic form is effective and if so why does the audience prefer this medium. I will be using the recent article by Hayles and Thomas as mentioned above and other sources.

  1. The very general idea would be a fine path to follow, although this is extremely broad. You would be best served in selected one or two instances of remediated text and determining its issues of legitimacy and "preference" on the way to making some sort of specific argument of your own.

Note that while blog assignment #12 is due by Thursday, 12/02, 5:00pm, that does NOT mean you can't do it earlier. In fact, in order to get the best comments that would help you do the best work, the earlier you do this, the better (since the paper is due via e-mail by Friday, December 17th at 9pm). Assignment #12, the longer proprosal, should be the short proposal fleshed out, plus a tentative works cited list (with annotations, as described on the assignment sheet).

  2. I think this combined information is quite interesting. I agree if its oral its a lot harder to pursue legal rights that it was your words or ideas that someone else used.
In fact, if you don't have a patent on an idea or word, it can be stolen from you quite easily.

We used to need it in print, but now with technology you can use tape recorders and change them to an mp3. While back in the day the written word was all you needed.

I think plagiarism is definitely harder nowadays with digital technology.
